The reason Hiroshige painted this bird's-eye view of an eagle aiming at a coffin swaying in the waves, instead of the bustle of the famous Suzaki Benten, is that this area was also a famous place for murders and dumping of bodies of the deceased. The stage for the climax of the ghost story "Dakki no Ohyaku" and the stage for the return of the door board in "Tokaido Yotsuya Kwaidan" are also located in the vicinity.
広重が洲崎弁天で有名な名所の賑わいではなく、一羽の鷲が波間に揺られる棺桶を狙う鳥俯瞰を描いたのは、この辺りが殺人や無縁仏などの遺体遺棄の名所であったからだという。怪談「妲己のお百」のクライマックスの舞台はここ。「東海道四谷怪談」の戸板返しの舞台も至近の隠亡掘。
